Grading & progression
The Team TKM grading system is divided into 3 main categories; Combatant, Advanced and Expert Levels. Most Krav Maga students are ready for the level 1 test after 3-4 months of regular training and there after every 6 to 8 months.
Expert Level (E1-E5)
These are high level Krav Maga instructors. Usually specialising with additional Krav Maga qualifications such as Law Enforcement Instructor or Military Instructor, in addition to their general qualification. Each star indicates their level, with 5 stars being the highest.
Advanced Level (A1-A5)
These are mainly regular Krav Maga instructors, although there may be Advanced level students who have not taken the instructors certification. Each bar indicates their level, with 5 bars being the highest.
Combatant Level (C1-C5)
These are Krav Maga students who are training as full members. Their grading patches are brown with black chevrons. Each chevron indicates their level, with 5 being the highest.

Krav Maga and Civilian Self-Defence
Having been involved in the Bosnian peacekeeping, Nick Maison left the Army in 2003 for a more family orientated life. While researching personal training techniques he stumbled across, and soon fell in love with, Krav Maga, a military self-defence system developed specifically for civilians.
